Welcome to the Theater!

We’re happy to have you. Whether you have yet to see HADESTOWN in person or you’ve seen it twelve times, we hope this space will almost (emphasis on almost) be like settling into your seat as the lights go down and the world of HADESTOWN is born before your eyes.

What do you want your audience to know before they enter the theater?

HADESTOWN has been performed all over from New York to Canada to London, but it’s current Broadway home is the Walter Kerr Theatre. The Walter Kerr is a proscenium style theater originally designed by Herbert J. Krapp in 1921 and has been home to legendary shows like Angels in America and Clybourne Park.

More about the Walter Kerr

As stated above, the Walter Kerr is a proscenium style theater. This means the stage is framed by a proscenium arch and the audience sits in front of the stage in ascending rows. The first proscenium stage was built in Parma Italy in the 17th century, though much of Western theater architecture has its roots in the Ancient Greek Amphitheaters.
